Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is your daily rate for consultancy and training work?
I normally charge £40 an hour/£300 a day (7.5 hours) though am open to negotiation.
  • Do you ever do work for less than you normally charge or for free?
Yes. If you are a community group that isn't well funded or an unfunded campaign organisation whose aims I support I am prepared to work for less or for free. Please contact me to discuss my availability and to agree whether a charge for my services is appropriate or not.
  • Are you prepared to work on issues other than those related to Disability and Poverty?
Yes. I am a very experienced policy professional and have worked on many other issues over my 35+ years in the Third Sector. For example, as a Parliamentary Researcher for MSPs I often had to produce briefings on a wide variety of topics in under 24 hours. I have also previously on issues such as employment rights, employability, equal pay, race equality and health inequalities.

Ruth Boyle, Policy and Campaigns Manager, The Poverty Alliance

"I would not hesitate to recommend Bill Scott as he is an excellent policy professional, with robust analytical and engagement skills. Even more importantly, Bill is a wonderfully supportive colleague. I have worked with Bill across a number of roles and have always found him to be helpful, warm and quick to go above and beyond. He has an encyclopaedic knowledge of issues related to disability and poverty. Most recently, Bill provided very helpful briefing for the Poverty Alliance on the implications of proposed changes to work capability assessments for devolved benefits. While this is an extremely complicated policy area, his findings were presented clearly and succinctly. Over the time I have known Bill, his work has been of a consistently high standard".
